BHOPAL: The Bhopal airport may be having a grandiose nomenclature of Raja Bhoj International Airport but technically and officially, the airport is neither international nor is there any proposal to confer that status on the airport. This information has come right from the horse’s mouth as in its reply to an RTI query by Tushar S. Kulkarni made on 29 September 2018, the Ministry, said that “Bhopal Airport has not been declared as an International Airport and no such proposal of declaring the airport as an International Airport is pending in the Ministry.”
ember of SBFAC (Support Bhopal for Air Connectivity) Group, Kulkarni, said, “The most important outcome of my RTI is that it reveals that Raja Bhoj Airport Bhopal” has not been declared as International Airport and unfortunately there is no such proposal pending in the Ministry,” Kulkarni said.
In reply to another query of Kulkarni, the Ministry said that the state government can offer VAT concessions on ATF to airlines using the Bhopal airport for night parking of aircraft. Kulkarni had sought to know “What initiative the Ministry has taken to reduce/ subsidise night parking charges for Airline companies at the Raja Bhoj International Airport Bhopal.”The ministry has, so far, replied to only two of the 10 queries in the RTI application of Kulkarni.
