Bhopal: The police did not open fire on agitators in Shajapur on Saturday. The message that went viral in this regard on social was completely fake. This was stated by IG, intelligence, Makrand Deouskar on Sunday. Talking to reporters, he said that Muslims in Shajapur wanted to bury body of their relative on land owned by another community. The administration swung into action and talked the Muslims into burying the body in another ground.

However, on their way to another graveyard, a few of the group members started pelting stones. The members of another community too retaliated in kind. In a bid to bring situation under control, the police resorted to cane-charge and even fired tear gas. Around 10 people were injured in the melee.

The IG further said that later on Saturday evening, two people reached police station and claimed to have suffered pellet injuries. The accused in the case has been identified as Mahendra Kushwaha, said the officer and added that he had fired on the duo from his air gun. The police have registered six cases in this regard, including one against Mahendra Kushwaha. The accused is at large along with the gun. Nine others have been arrested so far.

Three companies of SAF have been deployed in the area to prevent any untoward situation. Deouskar further said that a manhunt had been launched to nab the person responsible for sharing misleading message on WhatsApp. The IG added that the accused might have sent the message without verifying the facts or may have done it to create mischief.

“It is difficult to track down the main creator the message in WhatsApp. However, we will be able to identify the sender in course of time. The main accused is yet to be arrested,” he added.
