Bhopal: A day after Free Press raised the issue of women and girls being given special treatment by traffic police, the cops on Thursday were seen penalizing them for violating traffic rules.
Till now the cops were quite lenient in taking action against the women and girls even when they were found driving sans helmet and seatbelt . The police have been targeting men and youths for traffic violations.
Keeping all at parity, the cops on Thursday made challans against errant drivers both men and women and also penalized them. Free Press had also raised the issue of cops only concentrating on imposition of seatbelt and helmet rule, as they are least bothered to check the vehicle, or the required documents of the motor or its driver. Additional superintendent of police (ASP) traffic Pradeep Singh said that no discrimination was made against the traffic rule offenders and all types of checking were being conducted at checking points.
The areas where we have women cops, we stop female drivers or else we avoid, he added.
