Bhopal: NITI Aayog member Dr Ramesh Chandra met chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday. During the meeting, he praised the state government’s price deficit scheme.
He said that this scheme is a priority of NITI Aayog. During the meeting, Chouhan told Dr Chandra that state government has implemented the scheme to ensure that the farmers get a fair price for their produce. He said the scheme is aimed to ensure that farmers do not get less than support price.
Chouhan said contract farming is a solution to double the income of farmers, which will benefit small farmers. “This is being encouraged in the state,” Chouhan remarked. He said attempts at doubling the income of farmers include animal husbandry, fish farming, agriculture forestry and other agriculture-related activities.
Chandra was of the view that all farmers will get benefit of price deficit scheme whereas loan waiver will benefit only 25 percent of the farmers. He said Madhya Pradesh has created a record in the area of agricultural production but needs to innovate in agricultural marketing, contract farming, livestock development and dairy production.
State Planning Commission vice chairman Chaitanya Kashyap, NITI Aayog advisor Anil Shrivastava, additional chief secretary forest Deepal Khandekar, principal secretaries to the chief minister Ashok Vernawal and S K Mishra, secretary to CM Vivek Aggarwal among other officials were present on the occasion.
