Bhopal: National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Thursday directed Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) to demarcate the land provided by state government for construction of new slaughterhouse in Adampur Chhavani. The extended deadline given by NGT ends on March 31, 2018, after which everyday’s delay will incur a fine of Rs 10,000.
The state capital’s abattoir will be set up near the municipal solid waste (MSW) facility at Adampur Chhavani on the Raisen Road where a total of 64 acres of land including additional 10-acre land has been allocated. Haji Mohammad Ashiq Agro (HMA), an Agra-based meat processing firm, has been selected to execute the project.
Advocate Sachin Verma, who appeared on behalf of government, said, “NGT has asked BMC administration for demarcation of the land, which has been provided by the state government at Adampur for slaughterhouse. Now, ball is in court of BMC and it has to comply with NGT order.”
BMC deputy commissioner Harish Gupta said, “We have done our job like issuing work order and tendering etc. In fact, most of work has already been done.”
MLA Rameshwar Sharma who is opposing slaughterhouse at Adampur said, “Now it has become legal battle. Neither state government nor BMC administration is raising the issue of shifting slaughterhouse from Jinsy to Adampur but NGT is pushing it. We will handle it legally.”
