Bhopal: Vriksh Rakshak Dal, Paryavaran Sakhi and Kadam Sanstha are creating awareness in the city to save water.

The members of the group are visiting public places and colonies to request people not to waste water. They are also telling them about ways to conserve water like turn off taps, not to use potable water for washing cars, watering plants among others. They visit different slums and create awareness about importance of water. They have also installed water huts (pyayu) at public places and make pedestrians aware on how to use it properly.

Besides that, they organise painting, essay and acting competitions to make the children aware about the importance of water and water harvesting. They have launched cleanliness campaign to clean lakes in the city and make its chemical and pollution free.

Vriksh Rakshak Dal director Sunil Dubey ‘Vrikshmitra’ told Free Press, “We visit public places and colonies to make people aware on water conservation. We also tell them to use less water to wash cars and in other activities. We recently visited Habibganj railway station where we saw water is flowing on railway line. We brought it to the notice of station master. We also request him to monitor leakage in water pumps here.”

He further said, “We also visit slum areas like Bhim Nagar, Ambedkar among others and make the dwellers aware about the importance of water and how to save it because 20% of water is wasted due to lack of taps. Also 30% of water gets wasted due to leakage in water pumps of Bhopal Municipal corporations. We also installed Pyayu with small glasses to save water.”

“Most of people throw PoP-made idols and other items after worshiping in the lakes and it makes its water polluted. So, we have started a drive to clean water of lakes from the first day of nautapa at Bhadbhada lake. We clean it with the help of 20 children of age group from 7 to 15 years in the morning,” said Vrikshmitra.

Paryavaran Sakhi director Sudha Dubey said, “We organise painting, essay and acting competitions in schools and colonies to make aware the children about the importance of water and how to save it.” “We also motivate people including children to plant medicinal saplings as much as we can. We also inform them about water harvesting,” said Sudha who is a teacher in a government schools.
