Bhopal: As many as seven professors of a private medical college were injured as students along with their parents manhandled them over denial of admissions in undergraduate medical courses the left-out round of counseling. The incident took place at LN Medical College on Sunday in presence of police personnel. For the left-out round of counselling, many students, parents in tow, from other states had turned up at the college expecting to get admission in UG medical courses.
But to their surprise, they were informed that their names have been struck down by the DME and they could not get admissions. This led to protests by students and their parents on the college campus. Police intervened into matter and even rounded up the candidates and parents.
Some irked students even attacked professors assigned the task of clearing admissions. “The attack allegedly left seven faculty members injured. However, their injuries were not serious,” sources claimed.
The college administration stated that chaos took place on the college campus due to misleading directions by Directorate of Medical Education (DME) on NEET counselling. Confusion prevailed as the college tried to treat NEET-2 level candidates as College Level Counseling (CLC) which had to entertain 1:10 candidates for admission. If any candidate approaches any college under CLC, it is upto college concerned to deal or negotiate about the fee.
HoD (Forensic) Dr DK Satpathi said, “DME should clarify that whether the left out round is for nation or state level. The DHE order is silent on this matter. Left in confusion, students and parents created ruckus during counselling.”
