Bhopal: Irked over irregularities in admissions to MBBS and BDS courses, NEET-2017 aspirants on Sunday staged a dharna near Chief Minister’s house on Sunday. Sunday was the last day of admissions into medical courses. Exasperated with alleged violation of Supreme Court’s directives, aspirants and their parents initially tried to march towards the CM’s house. However, as the police did not allow them to move ahead at Polytechnic Square, they squatted on road and staged a protest.

The aspirants accused directorate of medical education of repeated changes in merit list of mop-up round causing a lot of confusion. They alleged that DME issued three lists in a single day and cut-off marks increased with every list. The students claimed that cut-off marks in second list should have been lower than the first one and accused the officials of manipulation.

They also claimed that the list had names of students who had already secured admissions in AIIMs. Aspirants alleged that students of other states were given admission in place of state-domiciles. A handful of students claimed that they had received SMSes from colleges asking them to take admission in BDS courses after depositing fees when they had not opted for the course while filling the choice.

The aspirants demanded that mop-up round be held afresh. As per Supreme Court’s directives, admission process was to end at 11:50pm on Sunday. The DME had issued list of private medical and dental colleges stating that students can get admission on ‘first come first get’ basis.

Angry parents questioned the rationale arguing, “How is it humanly possible to reach Ujjain or Indore from Bhopal in merely three hours and procure admission before 11:50pm”
