Bhopal: In our country government and people talk about water conservation and if we want to save water every village should have its own water audit report,” said Rajendra Singh a social activist working to save water, in the panel discussion organised at the conference.
He added in the country after independence the areas of drought had increased 10 times and the flood area had increased 11 times. “If the country can have integrated taxing system like GST, then why it is not having integrated water utilisation control room?” he asked.
Another participant Popat Pawar said in his panchayat no tube-well was permitted to be dug. The surface water was used for irrigation and tube-wells were only used for drinking water purpose. They had conducted water audit of the village and worked according to the report.
He also stated the other example of Vidharbh, where with the help of the government, the drought conditions had been controlled. In the area 42 farmers had committed suicide due to water problem, now the villages were having proper water and other facilities. Yogesh of Samarth NGO, informed that the rain cycle had changed in the country and farmers had to work accordingly, otherwise they would end up kill themselves or staging demonstration on roads.
