BHOPAL: The issue of farmers’ loan waiver has reached Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s doorsteps. Accusing Congress of spreading lies over the loan waiver issue and deceiving farmers, the former chief minister hit out at Congress president Rahul Gandhi and state Chief Minister Kamal Nath over their claim at that his brother was among those who received loan waiver.

Chouhan, addressing a press conference here on Thursday, claimed that his brother Rohit Singh never applied for loan waiver. “He is an income tax payer and it’s written (in records) that my brother Rohit hasn’t even filled the application for farm loan waiver,” said Chouhan.  Showing the panchayat’s documents pertaining to farmers at his native village Jait (in Sehore district), Chouhan said the records showed his brother was not eligible for loan waiver scheme. “This is a conspiracy…It’s a matter of investigation that if the application is not filed than how the loan is been waived of and importantly he had not taken any loan”.

An income tax payer or a government employee cannot be a beneficiary of this scheme, he said. “Why Chief Minister Kamal Nath is so kind to me?” he quipped, alleging that the Congress conspired to “hide its failure” over its loan waiver promise.  Congress on its own had put up a copy of the loan waiver application and Rohit has termed the copies as fake and he would complain about it to the authorities, said Chouhan.

On Wednesday addressing a public meet, Congress president had hit out at Chouhan for alleging that farmers have not received benefits of the loan waiver. Rahul and Nath had claimed that Chouhan’s brother Rohit Singh and his uncle’s son Niranjan Singh’s loans have been waived. Chouhan also raised the question over government letter in which it is stated that only the short term loan will be waived off. The decision has cast away the farmers who had taken mid-term, long-term loan for the horticulture and loan for agriculture equipment, said the former CM.

Cong presents copies of application forms Rohit Singh terms them fake
Replying to Chouhan, the Congress released copies of application forms of his (Chouhan’s) relatives who had applied for loan waiver under Jai Kisan Yojna. Addressing press, Congress spokesperson Narendra Saluja said Chouhan was giving false statements as his family members had applied for the loan waiver. He also presented ‘application copies’ of Rohit Singh and his nephew Niranjan Singh claining that the duo has sought loan waiver under the scheme.

Not only the relatives of ex-CM had applied for the scheme but also their neighbours and other villagers of Jait had applied for loan waiver, said Sauja claiming that their farm loan were waived and they were even given certificate. Talking to media, Rohit Singh said he would file a complaint to the collector and the SP seeking investigation into ‘fake’ application issue. He claimed that the copies which were shown by the Congress leaders were fake. “I never ever applied for the loan, as I am an income tax payer and not entitled for the benefit,” he added. Congress party is hatching a conspiracy against my brother to defame him, but it will be foiled, said Rohit.
