Invalidated notes will be accepted at tolls

BHOPAL: The Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation (MPRDC), taking a cue from Union minister for road transport Nitin Gadkari, has also made toll check posts free till November 11.

MPRDC, managing director, Manish Rastogi said this decision has been taken following demonetisation of notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000. Rastogi said as demonetised notes were not accepted, it was leading to long queues on toll check posts. He said invalidated notes will be accepted at tolls.

Meanwhile, transport barriers are witnessing long queues of vehicles as no decision has been taken. It may lead to shortage of supply of petrol and diesel too. Transport department had sought guidance from finance department to decide about taking toll at barriers but it refused to take any decision.

Some trucks managed to get away from transport barriers while some showed online payment receipts. Transport commissioner, Shailendra Shrivastava said notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 are not accepted at barriers and no decision has been taken to make them free.
