BHOPAL: On the first day of the hearing of Women’s Commission here on Wednesday, 17 out of 35 cases were heard by the bench headed by Chairperson Lata Wankhede. A majority of cases were of harassment at workplace.

A class three employee of Gas Relief Commissioner’s office complained that since 2008 she was facing abusive language and inappropriate comments from office caretaker Rahtulla. She said, “I complained about Rahatulla and an internal committee rejected my complaint, ignoring the proof given by me.  CCTV camera footage was also available but no action was taken and in 2011 I was thrown out. I also got threats from his brother Hamarullah. The then registrar, BB Shrivastav was supported him” The commission will now  investigate the matter again and a decision will be taken.

In a case of sexual harassment against Nahar Spinning Mills at Mandideep, the petitioner demanded removal of the accused employees. The bench said that it will see what they can do into the matter. After workplace harassment, cases of domestic violence and family disputes were reported most.

Chairperson late by two hours

The petitioners at women commission were more upset than angry on the first day of hearing of Bhopal bench on Wednesday. The petitioners were called at 11 am and chairperson Lata Wankhede came at around 12:45 pm after which the hearing began. One of the petitioners left the hearing after giving an application that her case has not been heard since she filed the plea in May 2016 and now when she has been called for hearing at 10:30 no one is there for the hearing. The petitioner also withdrew her case without giving any reason.  Lata Wankhede, on being queried about coming late said, “Generally the hearing begins at 12 noon and due to some personal reasons I reached here late.”
