BHOPAL: The CBI is going to complete its preliminary investigation in 10 days against the staff of Bhopal, Habibganj and Itarasi railway stations. Around 12 officials are under a cloud. They are accused of helping covert scrapped currency notes.
The Bhopal and Habibganj railway stations have come under the scanner of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), with a surprise check carried out by the agency revealing that the two stations in the state capital were helping to convert demonetised Rs 500 and 1000 currency between November 9 and December 7.
Three teams of the CBI and the WCR vigilance section conducted surprise checks at Bhopal, Habibganj and Itarsi railway stations on December 8, following specific intelligence information.
In the investigation it is found that the amount collected from parcel booking, ticket counter and reservation counter is been exchanged. The concern officials are changing the valid currency into the demonetise currency and then depositing it in the bank.
The officials are exchanging the amount after taking commission on the exchanged amount. Employees who had deposited the cash collections in the bank over the 29-days period could be the prime suspects.
