BHOPAL: Sportsmen and outsiders rule the roost on the MLB Girls College playground, which is out of bounds to its own students. One would hardly come across any girl student on college playground as most of the time boys are spotted sweating it out on the ground.
Even a notice has been put up on the ground stating that the college play ground is exclusively for its students, but the male sportspersons have turned a blind eye to it. Concerned for their safety, the girls students have stopped venturing into the playground. The guards deputed at the playground have failed to check the entry of outsiders.
In 2005, the MLB Girls College located in old city and Hamidia Commerce and Arts College (co-ed), polytechnic had swapped their campuses. The decision to shift the MLB girls college campus to Hamadia was taken following rampant incidents of eve teasing.
Earlier, playground at Hamidia Commerce and Arts College (co-ed) was used by its students for sports activities like cricket, football etc. But even after the college was shifted to the MLB campus in old city, the college boys continued their sports practice on the old premises.
Located at Professor Colony, a VIP area, the MLB Girls College is just a stone throw away from MEA Sushma Swaraj’s bungalow and a kilometer away from CM House. Though the students got a safe environment, however, the students are not able to use the campus to its full potential as the playground is still out of their limits.
With boys and outsiders occupying the ground, the college sportswomen choose to sit out, for many reasons including safety. The college as well as district administrations are obvious to the fact, but have chosen to remain mute spectator to students’ safety. The ground also have security, however, the guards have failed to check entry of outsiders.
