BHOPAL: A meeting held for the appointment of a member of the Board of Appeal of the Commercial Tax Department may set off a row in the coming days.
The meeting held on Wednesday approved the appointment of a retired officer Sudip Gupta as member of the Board of Appeal.
According to rules, the appointment of a member of the board is made under the chairmanship of the chief secretary. The committee that appoints the member comprises the chairman of the Board of Appeal and principal secretary of law as member.
Principal secretary of commercial tax department is the member secretary of the committee.
The post of chairman of the Board of Appeal is lying vacant. The chairman was not present in the meeting, since the post is vacant. Nor, there was anyone to represent the chairman at the meeting.
Guptaís appointment may kick up a controversy in the coming days.
Gupta did not get any promotion in his department, since his ACR was not up to the mark. Therefore, his appointment has caused a lot of confusion.
There were many retired officers who set their eye on the post, but how Gupta has been selected is beyond anyoneís understanding.
