Burhanpur: A workshop under the aegis of leprosy patient identification programme was organised for students and staff of Saifia Hamidia Unani Tibbia College on Wednesday.

During the workshop district leprosy Dr Neeraj Jain of Betul and Dr Virendra Nodia of Shajapur provided detail information on symptoms, treatment, disability and organs affected by the disease to students. They also informed participants about preventive measures and also cleared the doubts of students in a question-answer session.

During the seminar, participants also spoke to patients suffering from leprosy. The students also underwent a practical training that would help them identify and create awareness on leprosy in future.

Earlier, during National Leprosy Survey, state leprosy officer Dr Girish Chaurasia and state leprosy advisor Dr KL Bhandarkar visited the city and the areas from where new cases were identified during the survey. Later, they held a meeting with survey teams in Saida Hospital and reviewed progress of the ongoing drive. District leprosy officer Dr YB Shastri said that 26 new patients have been identified so far in the ongoing drive. These cases will be verified so that their treatment could begin at the earliest. The survey will continue till Thursday.
