Bhopal: Medical college deans stripped of power to purchase equipment

Bhopal: Deans of medical colleges in the state will now be empowered to purchase equipment costing only up to Rs 1 lakh. The Cabinet, on Wednesday, cleared a proposal to make purchases of medical equipment for colleges and their associated hospitals only through HLL Life Care, Thiruvanathapuram and Hospital Services Consultancy Corporation Limited, Noida.

Both are Government of India enterprises. These companies will also maintain the equipment purchased through them. In case of an exigency, the deans will be allowed to make purchases worth up to Rs 1 lakh. The sanitation work in the hospitals will be handed over to private agencies. The deans will be asked to concentrate on medical work.

The Cabinet also decided that 25,000 houses will be built under the Mukhyamantri Police Housing Scheme. Under the scheme, 5,000 houses will be built every year. It was also decided that of the 281 posts in the office of the Chief Electoral Officer of the state, 112 will be filled through the PSC and the rest through deputation.

Minister objects to third supplementary budget

The Cabinet also cleared the Rs 5200-cr third supplementary budget. A minister questioned the rationale behind presenting a supplementary budget with just 15 days to go for the end of the financial year. However, the chief minister told him that it was needed.
