Bhopal: Around 641 marriages, on the occasion of Akhshaya trutiya, created huge chaos at several spots across the city and gave a harrowing time to the commuters on roads on Wednesday.
The mass marriage functions were organised at Pahada wali mata temple at Kolar, Banjari dushehera maidan at Kolar, Tagore hostel at Shyamla hills, Pipleshwar temple at Shahjahani park, Bhanpur Khejda, Bittan market, Ratan colony, Bhoipura at Budhwara and Vikas nagar areas.
The traffic at around four locations of the marriages came to a stand still for over two hours. The vehicles of politicians and other participants caused congestion bringing the traffic came to a standstill at Kolar at Banjari dushehera maidan, a venue for mass marriage.
Many people have to wait for over two hours to cover a distance of less than a kilometer in the scorching heat as their vehicles got caught in traffic jam near the Mandakini square in Kolar. Similarly a procession organised , in Karond also congested roads for over an hour.
Mass weddings are organised on akshay trutiya, the annual spring time festival of the Hindus as it is considered to carry good luck and triumph in terms of new schemes, weddings, big investments such as buying property or gold and any new beginning. The commuters alleged that congestion caused by the cavalcades of politicians and other invitees at the marriage became a cause of great concern as there was no alternative way for them to access help in case of an emergency.
