BHOPAL: A 31-year-old woman sustained burns after she was attacked with acid by her estranged on husband Monday evening for refusing to return to him. The woman had got separated from her alcoholic husband Babulal Soni over drunken brawl and was living with her parents at Hanumanganj. On Monday evening, while the woman was returning from her workplace, her estranged husband, a labourer, threw acid on her. He was later caught and beaten by passersby when he tried to escape. The acid attack victim and her accused husband were both admitted to Hamidia Hospital. The accused has been booked under relevant section.
Hanumanganj CSP SP Ahirwar said that the woman had left her husband two years back as he was a drunkard and would beat her up regularly. The woman had shifted to her parent’s home and was living with them in Hanumanganj area. The woman’s husband, who resides in Bazaria, has been approaching and persuading his wife to return but to no avail. The woman, who works at shop, was returning home when Babulal waylaid her. Babulal again asked her to return to him, however, hearing her no, the man, who had come ‘equipped’, threw acid on the woman. Woman’s shrieks caught attention of passersby, who came running to her help. They caught hold of the accused and thrashed him. Ahirwar said the woman has sustained burns on her back and she has been admitted to hospital. Her husband is also undergoing treatment in the hospital. He has been booked under relevant sections.
