BHOPAL: Habibganj police have arrested the man who had taken money from a government woman official posted in Seoni district, for her transfer.

The complainant Arti Chopra, the district project manager (DPM) in Seoni, had deposited Rs 25,000 in an account on June 1, for her transfer. The accused Shailendra Patel, 48, was arrested from Saket Nagar in Baghsewania on Sunday. Patel, a contractor, is native of Jabalpur and currently resides in Baghsewania.

The accused posing as officer on special duty (OSD) to the department minister Mahendra Singh Sisodia had sought money from the officer for getting her transferred to a place of her choice. The cops said Patel had come in contact with officials and staff of the minister as he would supply saplings for plantation drives. The woman deposited the amount but when she did not hear for long, she called the ëOSDí only to find that she had been duped. Police are questioning the police to find out if he had targeted others as well.

Meanwhile, there are chances of the woman officer facing departmental action as well as under Sections of prevention of Corruption Act. The police said they will take action only if the department lodges any complaint.

Action against officer†for misconduct!

CSP Habibganj Virendra Mishra said the department will look into the fact as to whether the woman official is also guilty of any misconduct. †The incident has to be probed by the department first, and if there is a complaint we will book the accused, said the officer.

Person giving money is equally guilty

A retired official Mohan Chaturvedi said that this is a clear case of bribery and the one giving the money is equally a culprit. If the woman has given money for her transfer, it is illegal and the department must initiate action and lodge a complaint with the police, says Chaturvedi, ex-deputy director of the department of Finance.
