Khargone: Team of Maharashtra anti-terrorism squad (ATS) detained one 26-year-old engineer from Khargone district in connection with Shajapur train blast and the case related to terror outfit ISIS on Tuesday, officials said.
According to local police, a team of eight officers from Nagpada unit of ATS Maharashtra picked up Avesh Shaikh, son of Zakir Sheikh, resident of Talai Marg, Khargone from his residence on Tuesday late evening with the help of MP Police. He is being taken to Mumbai for questioning, a senior police official said here. ATS team recovered one laptop and mobile phone from his possession.
“Shaikh has not been placed under arrest so far. We are examining his role in the case,” the official said without elaborating further. Confirming ATS movement in the town, Khargone police station in charge MP Verma said, Shaikh, who has completed his M.Tech, was allegedly in constant touch with one of the accused in the case, who was earlier arrested for his alleged links with the banned terror group.
Verma said that earlier case has been registered against Avesh in Mumbai under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967. He added that Avesh’s in-laws residing in Mumbai and he was in constant touch with anti-social elements through various social networking sites and now ATS investigating the matter.
