Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh forest department’s preparedness to rescue crocodiles has been badly exposed. It has come to fore that it does not even have suitable quality net to catch crocodile and alligators. This is reason, a crocodile which has swallowed fishing-net, has not been rescued so far in Kaliasot Dam, Bhopal.

Experts maintain, if not rescued the crocodile may die. MP forest department has sought help from Uttar Pradesh forest department. A team is expected from Lucknow to help the state team in its rescue operations. For the last 10 days, forest department has been carrying rescue operation with fisher men and fishing net which is good for nothing as far crocodile is concerned.

Forest department teams and Van Vihar National Park officials deployed fishers men with boats have been deployed at Kaliasot dam for the last 10 days. The team members visit the dam site but return empty handed as they their efforts have gone futile. A big net was brought from Hoshangabad, but it too proved insufficient for the job.

Additional MP principal chief conservator of forests (APPCF) Alok Kumar said, “Our crocodile management is poor. Forest department does not have net which is meant only to rescue crocodile. We have to remove the net from jaws of crocodile. We have called a well equipped forest department team with net and other accessories to catch crocodile. It will be physically caught without pushing dose of tranquilizers.”
