BHOPAL: Only 60 companies of paramilitary forces will be deployed in state for the Lok Sabha elections to be held in four phases here. In the recently concluded state Assembly elections, Election Commission of India had provided 650 companies to ensure free and fair polls. Over 5.14 crore voters of will choose 29 Members of Parliament in the polling which will be held in state on April 29 and May 6, 12 and 19.

IG Law and order Yogesh Choudhary said around 50-60 companies will be sent to state for the election purpose, besides the district, SAF and home guards will be deployed to conduct the free and fair elections in the state.  “Since elections are being held all across the country, the ECI will not have the liberty to provide a large number of security forces as it had deployed during assembly polls,” said Choudhary. As the elections will be held in four phases the state will not need forces at a time to handle the law and order situation in the state, he added.

In the Vidhan Sabha elections, besides 650 paramilitary companies, the ECO had also sent around 35,000 home guards jawans from other states. The state had also utilised its 80,000 district and SAF forces in the elections.
