Bhopal: Loan waiver exposes scam in coop societies

Bhopal: The farm loan waiver has given rise to the possibility of exposing of scams in cooperative societies. The state government has decided to waive off farm loan of Rs 2 lakh of 55 lakh farmers. The waiving of loan would cost Rs 50,000 crore. The cooperative societies have put up the list of debtors and have started getting forms filled. After publication of lists in cooperative societies, cases of fake loan have come up in Gwalior. In Gwalior district, the lists put up by 76 cooperative societies have exposed names of several farmers who did not take loan but their names appear in the list.

A scam to the tune of Rs 120 crore in farm loan waiver has come up in Gwalior. Sources said more such fake loan cases would come up as the cooperative societies release more lists of debtors. Cases of taking loans in the name of farmers, in nexus with employees of cooperative societies may come up.

During the tenure of UPA government, a big loan scam came up in Hoshangabad. The government expects that another big loan scam may come up in the process of filing forms for loan waiver. Cooperatives department has asked to take action in cases of irregularities in loan distribution in all districts by cooperative societies. Chief Minister Kamal Nath too has directed collectors in this matter and said immediate action should be taken in matters of complaints and irregularities in cooperative banks. Nath has also asked to take action in case of loan scam in Gwalior.
