Sironj: On the fourth Monday of the holy month of Shravan, a massive kanwad yatra was taken out from the town by Tirth Kshetra Kanwad Yatra Samiti. The yatra began from Baba Vishwanathdham Tirth Kshetra. It was led by former minister Laxmikant Sharma. The yatra concluded at Devpur, about 12 km from the town, where Jalabhishek of the lord was performed.
This kanwad yatra is being taken out on the last Monday of the Shrawan month for past many years. Preparations had begun from the beginning of the month. Devotees were contacted from village to village and were urged to join the yatra in large numbers. The campaign bore fruit and on the morning of Monday, thousands gathered on the premises of Krishi Upaj Mandi. Most were youngsters, who were singing bhajans. Hundreds of women also turned up. The yatra began with Sharma performing the puja at Nageshwar Temple near Patidar Dharmashala. A DJ band was also in attendance. When the sea of people reached the main bazaar, it was a scene to behold. When one end of the Yatra was at Kothali Bazar, the other end was at the old bus stand.
Some of the kanwadis were carrying beautifully decorated kanwads. Some kanwads had small idols of Ganesh and Bholenath on both sides. Others carried Shivalingas. A ‘palki’ of the lord accompanied the yatra. The yatris were taking turns in carrying the palki.
The devotees sang and danced as they made their way to Devpur. On reaching there, they first took a bath in the sacred pond and then had a darshan of Baba Vishwanath in an orderly manner. Addressing the yatris, Sharma threw light on the historical importance of the town of Devpur.
The yatris were welcomed at many places on the way. Muslim Teohar Committee welcomed the yatra at Raja Bazar, Prashant Paliwal at New Bus Stand, MP representative Ramesh Yadav and corporators at municipality office and Sarpanch Sachiv Sangh at Ring Road Square.
The police had made elaborate security arrangements. However, the yatris, brimming with enthusiasm, were not ready to listen to anyone.
