Bhopal: Centrally located Kailash Nath Katju Hospital, which lacked adequate infrastructure and demanded an immediate overhauling, was finally closed down on Thursday, but for a good cause. Under smart City project, the hospital will undergo renovation and refurbishment work and a new building (G5) equipped with high tech technologies will come up in its place in next two years.
The hospital will be expanded into a 100-bed specialty facility providing latest medical amenities to the people. Katju Hospital provided succor to the hundreds of patients who flocked here from all across the state capital, specially TT Nagar area. The hospital’s OPD provided medical consultations and other allied services to around 500 patients daily.
There are about 20 doctors in the 30-bed hospital that specialises in maternity care. Six doctors have been shifted to JP Hospital. Some have been shifted to dispensaries of Gandhi Nagar Hospital, Kolar and Professor Colony. The locals though welcome the overhauling of the hospital, were are not happy with its closure.
They were of the opinion that before dismantling the old building the government should have made arrangements for some other medical facility in the vicinity as the new hospital would take over two years to come. CMHO Dr Ashok Jasani confirmed that Katju Hospital has been closed down for two year and at its place a new building (G-5) will be constructed. He informed that medical services given at the hospital have been shifted to other hospitals.
Maternity section will be shifted to Kamla Nagar Hospital and dispensary in the same area would provide primary medical care, while leprosy control programme would be shifted to Bairagarh hospital, he elaborated. He further informed that Ayush wing of the hospital would shifted to another Ayush section in hospital in New Bhopal. Outreach programme for community care would run at AIIMS Bhopal, he added
