BHOPAL: Bhind and Tikamgarh won the Kayakalp award – the clean hospital initiative – started by Ministry of Health and family welfare to make the government hospitals clean, hygienic and infection-free. Capital’s JP hospital was nowhere on the list of awards in either of the two categories. The best district hospital award has been given to Bhind and Tikamgarh (76), second to Satna and Shivpuri (73) and third to Khandwa (72), followed by Shahjapur, Shahdol. Hoshangabad, Jabalpur and Mandsaur have been given the commendation award.
The Kayakalp Award is given to district hospitals for maintaining hygiene and infection free environment for the patients. Few days ago, insects were found in the drinking water tank of the hospital and during inspection the team found that the staff was unable to answer simple questions on hygiene which has been stated as one of the reasons for losing the award apart from the other reasons. RMO, Balram Upadhyay on asking about the failure of JP hospital to maintain clean and hygienic conditions for patients said that the number of patients coming to JP hospital is huge and they come from other districts as well, so maintaining hygiene is a bit difficult on part of such a big hospital. It is to be noted that in 2015 JP hospital won the third prize in Kayakalp.
