Bhopal: Vice-chancellor of Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication, Jagdish Upasne, resigned from his post on Thursday but it is said that he had submitted his resignation two days ago.
Words have been doing round since the Congress government came to power that heads of universities specially Makhanlal Journalism University and Rajiv Gandhi Technical University would be changed.
Sources confirmed that Upasne had sent his resignation two days ago to the CMO. The university which comes under the Department of Public Relations confirmed that Upasne’s resignation has been accepted. Upasne had joined as VC in March 2018.
Senior officials of the university too remained unaware of the development for quite long as no one from the university confirmed about the VC’s resignation. Upasne did not respond to our calls. According to sources, Upasne decided to quit because he didn’t want to be removed from his post. Upasne himself kick started a controversy when he re-tweeted a political meme defaming Congress president Rahul Gandhi two months ago.
Members of National Students Union of India (NSUI) had protested in the university and demanded an apology from him. However, he didn’t apologise and continued tweeting posts inclined to Right-wing ideologies. Upasne was quite close with top cadre of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and Bharatiya Janta Party and was associated with saffron party’s mouthpiece, Panchjanya. Chief Minister Kamal Nath during conversation with the media after taking over as CM had given clear indications on removal of all the political appointees in the state.
Irregularities The university remained in news because of irregularities. The irregularities ranged from appointment of faculty members who did not fulfill the qualification criteria, extending deputations of officials posted in the university several times against the rules among others.
