Bhopal: While it denied affiliation to 51 study centers for using term ‘college’ in their names, journalism university has given a long rope to as many centers running with the same anomaly. Even as the journalism university had rejected affiliation applications of as many as 51 study centers for using word ‘college’, the varsity authorities have turned a blind eye to its as many study centers where ‘college’ is being mentioned along with their names. Of these, 26 study centers were given affiliation last year.

Around 1200 institutes had applied for the affiliation to Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication in the year 2017. But, more than 877 applications were cancelled, out of which 51 were turned down as they were using the word ‘college’ with their names. The university had released a list of cancelled applications in June last year.

As per the university rules, ‘The university disallows use of the words ‘National’, ‘College’, ‘Mahavidyalaya’, ‘International’, ‘All India’ and ‘India’ in the name of the institute. However, such institutions that have been recognised by any other University or All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and even National Council For Teacher Education (NCTE) as a college will be allowed to use the word “College” in their name.

Such institutions will be required to submit a copy of their recognition certificate/order while applying for affiliation. However, a member of the district association of the study centers on the term of anonymity said, “These institutes that are using the word “college” in their name didn’t submit the recognition certificate/order with their application form.”

He added we have copies of the application forms of all the study centers that have applied for affiliation to the journalism university last year. Director (IT) Deepak Sharma told Free Press over phone, we had tried our level best to follow all the regulations during the affiliation process. But, if someone complaints any anomalies we would look into it and take action after probe, he added.
