Bhopal: Join hands, pass Women’s Reservation Bill: Naidu to parties

Bhopal: Time has come when all parties should join hands to pass long-pending Women’s Reservation Bill said Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu here on Sunday. “I hope all political parties reach a consensus so that women can be given reservation in state legislatures, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. This issue should not be given a political hue,” said Naidu while addressing a state-level convention of women’s self-help groups (SHGs) here at Jamburi Maidan. The bill seeks to provide 33 per cent reservation to women in Parliament and state legislatures.

“Women are given reservation in local government bodies. Efforts are on for women’s reservation in Parliament. I personally support it (Women Reservation Bill),” said the Vice President. Stressing that women’s empowerment could create a new India, he said the focus should be on the “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” programme. Over one lakh SHG women workers participated in the programme. Stating that it is historic day, Naidu said, “In my entire career I haven’t seen such a huge gathering of women at one place” Beautiful people, beautiful members and beautiful chief minister, he added. Stating that women showed their abilities when given an opportunity, he gave the example of India having women as defence minister, foreign minister and Lok Sabha Speaker.

Speaking about the Demonetisation, Naidu said that the money hidden in bedrooms and bathrooms have reached banks and this will bring down the loan interest rates. “Right now I am on a Constitutional Post and not a political person anymore, I have visited here many times and can say that State is developing”, said Naidu. Naidu said that Madhya Pradesh has set an example by coming up with women-centric schemes like Ladli Laxmi Yojna.

Appreciating CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan, the vice president said “He (CM) may become ambassador of any company, if he is not in politics.”
