SIRONJ: Members of the Jain community, on Saturday, presented a memorandum addressed to the chief minister to the local Tehsildar demanding that the thieves who had stolen valuable idols from Jain temples should be caught and the idols recovered. They have warned of agitation if their demands are not met.
It may be mentioned here that on the intervening night of April 12 and 13, Ashtadhatu idols were stolen from the Digambar Jain Temple at Bareth Road in Ganjbasoda and village Muraria of Lateri tehsol of Vidisha district. Also, the archaeology department has banned worship in an ancient Jain temple at Pathari in Pathari tehsol of the district.
The memorandum said that the government should ensure that such incidents are not repeated and that the stolen idols should be recovered. They also want that the ban on worship should be done away with.
