BHOPAL: With the jail department getting nod from the government the jail inmates will soon be going to get free of cost biscuits, namkeen and toothpaste very shortly.
The decision was taken by the department following orders, in which the prisoners were restricted to keep various items like perfume, namkeen, biscuits, sugar, chilli, toothpaste and other things from outside.
The prisoners of Bhopal and Jabalpur opposed the department’s decision and went on strike. The jail administration rectified its decision and agreed to provide tasty food to the prisoners.
Additional director general of police (ADG), GR Meena informed that the government has approved the new diet plan and other facilities for the prisoners.
He added that e-tendering has given good opportunity to the department. As the expenses of the new items to be provided to the inmates, supposed to be a financial burden on the department, will be managed with the allocated funds.
Earlier, an amount of Rs 53 was spent on every prisoner. However, due to e-tendering the bidding has lowed down to Rs 43.
The expected cost on the new improvement in food and other facilities to the prisoners is around Rs 7. The department will have to spend lesser amount to provide better facilities.
