Bhopal: A fraud was arrested here on Tuesday. The accused targeted vulnerable sections of society in which he tricked them into giving him their ATM card to help them in withdrawing money. Later, after withdrawing money, he would return them a duplicate card of the same bank.
Interacting with press, SP South Siddharth Bahuguna said he would mostly target the elderly ones by pretending to help them in withdrawal of money from ATMs.
Identified Rajeev Hasmukh Bhai Bhatt, he duped Jai Bhadaur Chandra when the latter had gone to withdraw money from SBI ATM at TT Nagar. The accused told him that it was out of cash and that he could do the transaction from some other ATM.
He also accompanied the victim to a nearby ATM where he helped him withdraw the money.
The gullible man revealed his PIN and other details before him to seek his help.
Bhatt himself made the withdrawal and returned him a similar looking duplicate card.
However, to his surprise he received a message of Rs 20,000, which was deducted from his bank account after which Chandra filed a police complaint.
The police team immediately swung into action and launched a man hunt in search of the accused. A joint team of crime branch and TT Nagar spotted a person standing near ICH in suspicious manner. On being quizzed he tried to mislead the cops but later gave in and confessed to his crime.
The police said the accused was a habitual offender who duped people to fulfill his extravagant needs.
