Bhopal: Union minister Uma Bharati, amending her announcement made at Jhansi two days back, said here on Tuesday that she would keep away from elections only for a period of three years. Talking with reporters, she said that due to some medical issues, the doctors have advised her not to overburden herself with work.

She said that what she had said in Jhansi was distorted. Uma said that after the doctors advised her rest, she had conveyed about it to national BJP president Amit Shah on phone. Shah told her that she should continue in the union ministry till 2019.

Uma said that she will lead a balanced life over the next three years. “If the party asks me to campaign anywhere, I will comply. Otherwise, I will confine myself to official work and take as much rest as possible,” she said. Bharati said that since July 2016, she has offered to resign from the ministry thrice. “I have conveyed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Shah that I want to work in the party organisation,” she said.

She said that she has many years of active political life before her. Taking the names of many top state BJP leaders, she said that she was much younger than them. In reply to a question, she said that she had no desire of campaigning in the state. Uma said that her name was dragged into the Vyapam scam as part of a conspiracy. “It was one of the saddest moments of my life,” she said.

Nehru had sought help from RSS

Commenting on RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s statement regarding Indian army, Uma Bharati said that when Pakistan had attacked India, even Jawaharlal Nehru had sought help of RSS. She said that Bhagwat had not insulted the army. “Our army was insulted when its men were described as rapists at the JNU,” she said, adding that “RSS stands by Indian army and cannot be described as an insult to the army.”
