Bhopal: While income tax payers are facing problems in linking their PAN with Aadhar, on a positive note, the I-T department has started the process of refunding of TDS even before the expiry of the last date for filing of returns. And this is happening for the first time. Normally, the work of assessing the returns and refunding TDS begins after the last date for filing returns. But this year, it was started earlier in compliance with the Union Government’s instructions to expedite the refund process.
It is expected that 23 lakh returns will be filed in the state this year, of which most have been already filed. Some assesses are facing problems for want of linkage of their PAN with Aadhar. After extension of the deadline for linking the two being extended to August 31, the filing process has gained momentum.
According to information, more than 10,000 refunds have been issued in the Bhopal region alone. Earlier, assesses had to wait for up to six months for returns. Due to the tightening of the I-T rules, a large number of persons who did not file returns earlier are doing so this time. In MP-CG alone, the number of new filers is around 7 lakhs.
According to AK Jaiswal, principal chief commissioner, I-T, the work of processing refunds has been sped up this year. He says if there is no irregularity or mistake in the returns, the refunds will be made much sooner than earlier.
