BHOPAL: A major mishap was averted with the detection of a crack in the AC coach trolley of 12322 Mumbai-Howrah Mail at Itarsi Railway station on Wednesday. The train was to leave for Jabalpur en-route to Howrah. The crack may have led to derailment of the train.
The Mail arrived at the Itarsi railway station at 9:40 am. During routine inspection, the railway staff detected cracks in the trolley of the AC coach. On being informed, senior officials rushed to the platform number one, where the train was stationed. The AC coach was immediately detached from the rake and the passengers were shifted to other coaches. The operation took nearly an hour. The trolley happens to be an important part of the coach and if the crack had not been detected in time, a major mishap would have been occurred.
However, passengers created ruckus on the platform when they were told to shift to another coach. They complained that it would be difficult for them to move their luggage.
Itarsi Station manager Yogendra Singh Baghel, talking to Free Press, said, “Trains are routinely inspected when they arrive at major junctions like Itarsi. Had the crack not been detected, the train might have been got derailed. However, nothing untoward happened”.
