Bhopal: A day ahead the Assembly was to elect its speaker, the Congress and Bahujan Samaj Party MLAs accused the opposition BJP of making big offers to them to pull down Kamal Nath-led government. The rumours and allegations of alleged ‘horse trading’ are flying high in the political circles.

Even, Congress, not leaving anything to chance, is also in contact with some BJP legislators expecting cross voting during the speaker’s election. Congress will have to face its first floor test to get a Speaker elected during the five-day Assembly session that began on Monday. The election for the speaker’s post would be held on Tuesday.

The allegations are rife that to dethrone the Congress-led government, crores of rupees were been allegedly offered to ruling alliance MLAs to join the opposition BJP. The Congress and BSP MLAs alleges that the top leaders of BJP are contacting them and wanted to join the party.

Congress and even BSP MALs have alleged that the BJP has been attempting horse-trading. Rambai Parihar, the first-time BSP MLA from Pathariya constituency of Damoh district alleged that some BJP leaders were contacting her husband. “Right since the assembly poll results were declared on December 11-12, BJP leaders from Bhopal as well as Bundelkhand have been contacting my husband and making all kinds of big offers to convince me to back out from supporting the new government in MP.

But we have been overlooking these offers as we’re committed to Behenji’s (BSP chief Mayawati) commitment to support the Congress government in the state,” Parihar told journalists after the meeting and dinner at the CM’s residence, here on Sunday evening. However, a visibly upset over her non-inclusion in the Cabinet, the BSP legislator on Monday said, “ I have been informed that I will be getting a ministerial berth in coming four days, but if not I will see the Congress party.”

Bada-Malhera MLA Pradumn Lodhi also levelled similar allegations. “Some of the leaders from Bhopal and Bundelkhand are mounting pressure to pull down their support from the Congress party and shall join the BJP”. Lodhi, a former BJP leader, who had joined Congress recently, alleged, “A hefty amount was been offered to me to return to BJP and was also promised a ministerial berth, but I didn’t accept their proposals.”

“Betrayal is not in my blood, I have won the election on Congress ticket and neither money nor ministerial berth any buy my honour and pride,” said the confident MLA. He alleged that many first time MLAs were on the BJP target and lured with promise of money and post. “The BJP is greedy of power and they want to return to power by hook or by crook, the MLAs also understand the BJP’s trick and won’t fall into the trap,” said Lodhi.
