Bhopal: There was no let-up in the heatwave conditions sweeping most parts of Madhya Pradesh as mercury breached 45 degree Celsius on Tuesday. In the state capital, people battled scorching sun for another day as the maximum temperature touched 45.3 degrees Celsius.

A day before, Khajuraho, sizzled at 49 degree Celsius, becoming the hottest place in the country. On Tuesday, the mercury came down and settled at 46.2°C in the temple town. Other places where the mercury went past 45 degrees Celsius are Gwalior, Rajgarh, Damoh, Hoshangabad, Guna,Umaria, Raisen and Khargone.

Since the last few days, the weather of entire Northwest and Central India is almost dry. Winds are also blowing from northwest and west direction; the dry and hot winds have increased the temperatures over Madhya Pradesh and other states. Heat wave is continuing to persist over many parts of Rajasthan,

Madhya Pradesh and adjoining states. A cyclonic circulation is over Northwest Madhya Pradesh and an east-west trough is extending from this system up to East Assam. As the blistering heat swept Bhopal in the day, the residents also experienced sweaty night as it registered minimum temperature of 30.7 degree Celsius. Indore recorded a maximum temperature of 41.7 degree Celsius while it recorded a minimum temperature of 29.4 degree Celsius.

According to meteorological department, heat wave conditions are expected to persist over Madhya Pradesh and other states for the next couple of days. As monsoon hit Kerala, some moisture feeding is possible toward central part, during that time, pre- Monsoon activities may once again commence over many parts of Northwest and Central India so therefore, a marginal decrease in temperatures is expected which would abate heatwave. But it will happens if some wind pattern does not change and heat wave does not intensify otherwise, moisture will be absorbed and chances of relief will be thin.
