Bhopal: A 12-year-old Dalit girl, missing since Wednesday, was found beheaded more than 24 hours later in Banda block of Sagar district on Friday. The police have registered a case of kidnapping and murder against the unidentified person/s in the case. The Sagar district police suspect the horrific killing may have been the fallout of a land-related dispute in which the girl’s kin was involved with a neighbouring family. According to the Banda police station in-charge, Satish Singh, a family from Belakhedi village reported at Banda police station around noon on Thursday that their daughter hadn’t returned from school on Wednesday.
The family searched for their daughter on their own till Wednesday night, but unable to locate her, they reported the matter to Banda police on Thursday noon. “It was on Thursday evening around 7 pm that the headless body of the girl was found lying close to her village. The severed head was found some 50 to 100 metres away,” Singh informed on Friday. The body has been sent for post-mortem to a hospital in Banda town. Although circumstantial evidence doesn’t suggest any wrongdoing with her before the killing, the autopsy report will make matters clear,” he added.
In the primary investigations, particularly based on allegations of the girl’s family, it is alleged that the killing was the fallout of a land-related dispute with a neighbouring Kurmi family. “We’re conducting raids and hope to track the suspects soon,” he added.
