Bhopal: Junior Doctors Association (JUDA) of Hamidia Hospital went on strike on Thursday after Dr Sujit Mishra was booked for allegedly beating up relatives of an 8-year-old girl who was to be operated on Wednesday. Bone of contention was postponement of operation of the girl who had fracture in hand.
Koh-e-Fiza police had registered a FIR against the relatives of the patient on the complaint of Dr Sujit Mishra and three of the relatives were arrested. But on Thursday, the family members of the girl also lodged complaint against Dr Sujit Mishra, HoD orthopaedic, for allegedly beating them.
Eight-year-old Simaran had a facture in hand and she was to be operated on Wednesday but Dr Sujit Mishra postponed the surgery for Thursday stating that his duty hours are over. This irked relatives the family members of the girl who created ruckus in the operation theatre (OT). Junior doctors allegedly thrashed them and reported the matter to Koh-e-Fiza police. A case under Section 294, 324, 506, 34 of IPC and Section 3-4 Doctors Protection Act were registered against Azaj, Iqbal, Anas and Azaras and on Thursday, Azaj, Iqbal, Anas were arrested. Azaras is still out of police reach.
JUDA president Nishant Srivastava said, “Dr Sujit Mishra has been booked for allegedly beating Simaran’s relatives. Following this development, we observed strike. In fact, relatives stormed into OT and manhandled and abused the junior doctors. In spite of that, a FIR has been registered against Dr Mishra. In protest against the FIR, we have observed strike.”
Condition of Hamidia Hospital is very bad, as relatives of the patients take it granted that they can do any thing. It is very difficult to work in usual course. Administration should ensure the conducive atmosphere for the doctors for better results, JUDA president added.
