Bhopal: The state government is all set to withdraw cases of minor crimes before assembly polls. CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan, while reviewing law and order on Tuesday, asked the chief secretary and director general of police (DGP) to initiate the process to withdraw cases of minor crimes filed against poor and downtrodden.

He asked them to direct the district officials to prepare a list of such cases by July 31. He asked them to initiate withdrawal of such cases in August. He told the officials that there was no relevance in running a trial bothering a poor person.

There have been several cases of minor crimes registered against tribals in the state.  Chouhan’s move is considered to be a big initiative in the direction of appeasing tribals. He said it should be ensured that criminals in cases of rapes with minor girls get capital punishment. He asked police officers to constantly review such cases.

He said follow-up in cases of rapes should be done from high court to the Supreme Court. He said he would review such cases in every 15 days. He was told in the meeting that the lower court has prescribed capital punishment in 9 cases of rape. Chouhan said attempts should be made to ensure that the upper court uphold the order of the lower court.

CM asked them to organise programmes on August 14 across the state to pay respect to the martyrs of Army, Police and paramilitary forces and also visit their houses. Chouhan said he, his all ministers and officers would visit the families of martyrs.  The government would take steps to fix any problem of livelihood faced by the families of the martyrs.
