Bhopal: Fulfilling one of the promises made in its ‘Vachan Patra’, Kamal Nath-led Congress government on Tuesday decided to open 1000 Gaushalas across the state in next four months. The government claimed that more than one lakh bovine will be given shelter at these gaushalas.
Chief Minister Kamal Nath said that with this Congress has completed one more promise made during assembly elections. Rural development department will be the nodal department to look into the execution of the decision. Implementing agencies include gram panchayat, SHG and State Gau Samvardhan Board.
State government said that at present there are 614 gaushalas running in the state but all are in private hands and not being run by government. Collector will head the committee at the district level. This venture will also generate employment for youth, said Nath.
Committee formed to develop model for gaushalas
The state government has constituted a state level committee to develop substantial model for gaushalas- as promised by the Congress in assembly elections. The committee will be headed by additional chief secretary Iqbal Singh Bains. Other members of the committee include departmental heads of forest department, panchayat and rural development, animal husbandry and agriculture department.
Commissioner MNREGS has been made secretary of the committee. The committee, whose tenure has been decided for one year, will develop a sustainable model for gaushalas- that are proposed to open at panchayat level. It will prepare guidelines for running of these gaushalas besides reviewing the progress regularly.
