Bhopal: Activists working for gas victims of infamous Bhopal gas tragedy have raised concern over cricket tournament organised by BMHRC (Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre). Coordinator of Bhopal Group for Information and Action, Rachna Dhingra said that BMHRC is facing acute resource crunch. Despite knowing this fact hospital administration has decided to finance the inter-hospital tennis ball night cricket tournament. The tournament will be organised in BMHRC campus from May 25. Tournament matches will be played in the evening from 8pm to 2pm.
Dhingra said that BMHRC has made provision for more than Rs 1 lakh for the said tournament. The same institute cites budget limitations when it comes to supply of medicines or for buying of medical equipments. Patients have to buy small items like bandage etc because of the budget constraints, she said. Dhingra also raised question over the timing of the match. If the staff members will play cricket till 2pm at night, will they be able to discharge their duty honestly the next day, she asked. The Bhopal Group for Information and Action has asked the hospital administration to reconsider its decision and to focus more on the objectives that the hospital was built for.
