Bhopal: For almost four years, the students of government Law College have been staring hopelessly at the locked new library building and the administrative block. For years, students have been deprived of modern library, auditorium and buildings which they were promised.

While library building and administrative block are standing tall, the legal-aid cell, human rights cell, environmental cell are running only on papers. The auditorium building on which lakhs were spent was left half constructed due to lack of funds.

For four years since their completion, the new library building, constructed at a cost of Rs 85 lakh and the administrative block on which Rs 15 lakh were spent are yet to be open for students.  The space of administrative building was used as godown by MP Hindi Granth academy for storing books.

Construction of auditorium building began with an initial budget of Rs 75 lakh, however, the work was stopped in 2010, never to be resumed. The authorities are not restarting the work as the cost of construction has escalated to Rs 1.5 crore. Some of the sources in the state law college said, even when all the three cells are only running on the papers, the college has applied to BCI to renew affiliation.

Peeved over the pathetic conditions prevailing at the college, a student Pradeep Parihar decried that college officials never are least bothered about the college and never paid any heed toward improving the infrastructure. The students have complained to authorities multiple times but no actions have been taken, he added.

However, principal Mayuri Shikha Agarwal said that the construction agency has not handed over the library and administrative block and so they have not been opened. We had sent many communiqué to re-start the construction of auditorium but PWD didn’t begin the work, added Agarwal.
