Bhopal: The bitter memories of rainy season in previous year are giving sleepless nights to the residents of Fortune Soumya Housing Society. The society is one of the well designed colonies near Misrod at Hoshangabad road where waterlogging had created a flood-like situation last year. The rain water had caused severe loss to the residents which they say can’t be forgotten.
A resident of the society Manish Chouhan said that there was rain water all over the area and we were forced to leave the ground floor. We had to move to the first floor as the ground floor was waterlogged. I had personally suffered a loss of Rs 1.5 lakh, including damage to my car and furniture. He also showed us photographs of rain water of previous year which depicted their plight.
Similar views were expressed by another resident Dr Saurabh Dantre who claimed that most of the residents had suffered heavy losses in the flood like situation last year. He demanded maintenance and regular cleaning of the nullah near the colony saying otherwise the situation will keep haunting them every year.
Another resident Amit said that entire household items including books and vehicles were damaged in the rains. Water gushed into our houses and were busy shifting the belongings to the first floor of the house, he added. The compensation which we receive later can hardly balance the loss hence we need a permanent solution for the issue, said Amit.
Nishat Hussain, marketing manager of the society said that the nullah is being cleaned on regular basis and we will try that no such situation emerged this year. He, however, said that a builder can clean the nullah in its purview but if it is blocked outside of the colony then there will be backwater flooding. He stressed over proper channelisation in Bhopal to get rid of the problem.
