Bhopal: Cyber crime cell nabbed a youth accused of duping a married woman of cash and valuables to the tune of Rs 5 lakh by creating his fake Facebook profile using photographs of an Itarsi-based model. The accused, identified as Manoj Singh Nayak alias Manoj Banjara (29), son of Puran Banjara, a native of Kanpur district in Uttar Pradesh, had a cash reward of Rs 5,000 on his head and he was arrested from Odisha.
The class V dropout created a fake Facebook profile by using photographs of Rakesh Chelani of Itarsi who works as a model in Mumbai and posing himself as MBA graduate, used the profile to befriend a woman who was a friend of Rakesh. The accused further engaged in chat with the victim, exchanged mobile numbers and other details and after gaining confidence, tricked the woman out of Rs 5 lakh by earning sympathy from her with his fake personal problems.
The victim in her complaint stated that the accused posing as Rakesh Chelani duped her of Rs 1.56 lakh cash and 120 gm of gold jewellery. The money was transferred to the bank account while the jewellery was handed over to the accused which the victim. She stated that the accused had asked her for help after collecting the cash and she provided her gold jewellery weighing 120 gm to him in Hoshangabad.
The accused told the victim that he would send someone to collect the jewellery as he was busy but later, he himself reached Hoshangabad on July 8, 2017 to collect the jewellery and also, her Vivo V5 mobile phone. After collecting the valuables, the accused deleted the fake Facebook account and deactivated all his mobile phone numbers following which the woman informed her husband about the incident. However, later when victim’s husband contacted Chelani, the fraud came to light.
