Bhopal: Eye hospital in the offing, Rs 5 a meal for poor from April 1

Burhanpur: Lions Club Burhanpur’s Golder Jubilee Year celebration concluded with MJF district governor Lion Sateesh Bhalla’s official visit here on Thursday. The grand programme was chaired by Lion Virendra Singh while Lion Parvinder Bhatia (first vice district governor), Lion Nirmal Kumar Jain (second vice district governor), Lion Dr JP Chauhan (region chairperson), Lion Manohar Wadhwani (zone chairman), and Lion Poonamchand Chhaparwal graced the occasion as special guests. Lioness Saroj Thakur (President Lioness Club) and Lioness Dr Neeta Patil (president, Lions Club Greater) were also the dignitaries present on the occasion.

The programme commenced with ‘Saraswati vandana’ followed by ‘dhwaj vandana’ and two minutes of silence for world peace.

Virendra Singh in his address inspired many with the words of the founder of Lions Club, Melvin Jones and also hailed the contribution and works of former Lions president and his brother Lt. Mahendra Singh. He said that the club wishes to transform its dream project—an eye care hospital—into reality in this year. The project witnessed many ups and downs but the work is now completed under the guidance of senior and dedicated club members, he assured. Singh further informed that under Annam Raksham programme, poor people of the town will get a meal at Rs 5 from April 1 onwards.

Senior Lions Club members Dinesh Shah, Mangal Chand Jain, TK Mashruwala, Dr IL Mundra, Meena Chauhan, Dr KP Shroti, and Dr Somani were felicitated with shawl and quince for their extraordinary contributions on the occasion. Mementos were given to the special guests as well. Winners of various competitions over the year were also felicitated. Secretary Lion Dr SM Tariq gave the vote of thanks and Prof Bharat Rawam and Prof Rashmi Govindjiwala hosted the event.
