Bhopal: Every day should be dedicated to the honour of women said Chief Minister

BHOPAL: At a programme to mark International Women’s Day here on Wednesday, minister for woman and child development Archana Chitnis said there was need to stop the use of the word ‘widow’.

Chitnis, in the presence of CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan said ‘widow’ word created the image of a weak and helpless woman. She urged Chouhan to take the initiative to abolish use of the word.

Chitnis said in the way the Centre had started using ‘divyang’ for the disabled, some positive word should be used for widows.  Addressing the function, Chouhan said both the society and the government must work together for women’s empowerment. Daughters, sisters and mothers have been accorded the highest status in India. It is our culture to honour and respect women. Instead of celebrating Women’s Day once a year, every day should be dedicated to the honour of women. He extended greetings on Women’s Day to all mothers, daughters and sisters.

The CM released the ‘Jaag Sakhi’ book, ‘Beti Bachao- Beti Padhao brochure’ and ‘Nutrition calendar’. A nutrition kit was presented to the guests. Abhiruchi Shrivastav of Gwalior was awarded Rani Avantibai Courage Award of Rs one lakh for her efforts to save children and women from harassment.

Vishnu Kumar Woman and Child Welfare Award was presented to UK Shukla of Hoshangabad. Master Akshat Jha of Satna was honoured for making a film based on efforts for saving daughters.
