Shujalpur: Eid was celebrated with usual fanfare and fervour in the city on Monday. A large number of devotees reached the Idgah and other mosques to offer special Eid prayers and prayed to the almighty for world peace and good monsoons. Besides Idgah, the mosques at Bhimpura, Fadalipura and Premnagar were also crowded. The municipal committee had made arrangements for welcoming the namazis with scent and garlands of flowers.
A large number of members of the Hindu community were also present at the Idgah to greet their Muslim brethren. Among those present were Mahendra Joshi, chief organiser of Congress Sewa Dal, block Congress president Mangal Singh Rathore, Alok Shrivastava and corporator Jeevan Rana. Hindus visited the residences of their Muslim friends and acquaintances to greet them. Sewayians and other delicacies were savoured. A general bonhomie prevailed.
The Bohra community of the town had celebrated Eid a day earlier. Members of the community reached the mosque of the community located in the town and offered special Eid namaz. The festival was also celebrated in the rural areas of the district.
