Bhopal: Drunk youth shoots self over refusal to go to party, dies

A 26-year-old married man shot himself dead on Wednesday night after his family refused him let him go out for party with friends. Seeing him heavily drunk, the family had even taken away the car keys and asked him to stay at home. This threw the man in rage and he shot himself with a country-made pistol. He died on the spot. Awadhpuri SHO, Mangilal Bhati said the deceased, identified as Shailendra Singh, was a resident of Shivlok Colony in Khajuri Kalan area.

Shailendra was MBA passout but was unemployed for last two years. Earlier he had worked with a real estate firm but left it over some issue.  He had a love marriage with Paramjeet Kaur around three years ago, the couple didn’t have any child.  Deceased’s parents-Bhupendra and Geeta Devi, both government school teachers in Lalitpur district of UP, were visiting them to look after Shailendra’s ailing grandfather who was hospitalized. Deceased’s uncle Ajendra Singh and cousins Shubham and Rubi were also present at the home when the incident took place.

Shailendra had celebrated his birthday on April 1 with his friends. On Wednesday night, he wanted throw a party for some of his other friends who could not join him on his birthday celebrations.  On Wednesday around 9:30 pm. Shailendra returned from hospital where his ailing grandfather is admitted. A while later told his wife and parents that had to leave as he was taking his friends for a birthday treat.

As Shailendra was heavily drunk, the family refused to allow him to leave and they even took away the car key from him. The youth in huff left the home but returned after strolling for a while. Still fuming, the youth locked himself up in his room. To vent out his anger Shailendra first broke the LED TV and then in fit of rage shot himself on his head with a country-made pistol.  The family rushed him to hospital, but the doctors declared him dead on arrival.  Bhati said FIR has been registered and probe is on. Since the pistol was illegal, police will also probe about its source, he added.
